Black and proud

Black and proud

Oh body of mine, make me a man forever inquisitive.

Frantz Fanon

Dedicated to the North American diaspora, this piece is dedicated to the African descendents who by their actions,

their works, their ideas and often their sacrifices allowed a rebirth of Black pride.

All the Black people of the world owe a debt of gratitude to the Afro-Americans for their incredible ability to resist centuries of oppression.

Despite the dreadful restrictions that were imposed upon them they knew how to adapt all the while keeping their creativity and dignity.

In this way they became the spearhead of renewal.

In the 1960s and 1970s this long labour of millions of nameless men and women finally bursts in to the light of day.

The lists of names on this wall hanging far from being comprehensive are a tribute to all those who participated in this emancipation.
